• Local Sustainability Week

• Report on Social and Community Enterprises - a European Perspective + its cover of the orginal hard copy - Oz Osborne. This report looks at community business in Europe and how it relates to the principles of sustainability. The report features some of the many enterprises that have been set up by community organisations in responce to local need. The report explains that social and community enterprise is community-based economic development that contributes to the social economy.

• Report on Building Our Own Future: Local Action for Sustainable Development Across Europe in 21st Century - Chris Church. This report highlights the value of local action in protecting the environment and delivering sustainable development across Europe. It points out that politicians fail to provide support and conditions for such local action to flourish and that is one reason why national and interntaional policy is often poorly implemented. The report descirbes 8 different ways in which local action can lead to stronger community engagement as well as environmental improvement.

• CSD 10, New York (April 30th - May 1st 2001, acting as the first prepcom for WSSD) ANPED distributed a new report: 'Thinking Locally? Act Globally! Overcoming the barriers to effective local action on sustainable development'. This report got input from a range of NGOs from across Europe.

• We organised three skillshares on Local Sustainability:

1. Report from the skill-share: Opening the Window to Sustainability in South Eastern Europe, held in Groznjan, Croatia (February 3th-6th 2000). This skill-share was organised by ANPED and Green Action Zagreb, Croatia, report by Chris Church and Sabine van Grafhorst.
2. Report from the skill-share: Local Agenda 21, held in Bushteni, Romania (October 29th - November 1st 1998).This skill-share was organised by ANPED,in co-operation with TER Romania, report by Chris Church, Sabine van Grafhorst and Barbara Kruizenga.
3. Report from the skill-share: Local Agenda 21 and grassroots development, held in Szentendre, Hungary (January 30th - February 1th, 1998).This skill-share was organised by ANPED, in co-operation with the Regional Environment Centre (REC),report by Chris Church and Hélene van Rijn. Together with our members we developed a series of recommendations and submitted these to governments at the Environment for Europe meeting in 1998.
