The
United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) was created to provide leadership and encourage partnership in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing, and enabling nations and peoples to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations.
UNEP National Committees
UNEP National Committees are multi-stakeholder support organizations set up under practices and norms existing in different countries on the operation of NGOs. They may include in their constituent members and representatives of environmental and development NGOs, UN Associations, news media, industry and labor, the scientific community, academia, women, youth, indigenous peoples, community groups as well as prominent individuals. In some cases observers and supporters from relevant government agencies may take part as ex-officio members.
UNEP Industry Sectors
In 2000 an important process was started by the UNEP Department on Technolodgy, Industry and Economy (UNEP DTIE). They joined 22 international industry sector associations with stakeholders to start collecting global information on the sustainability impact of each industry sector., learn from the knowledge gained, and aim at reforming the industry sectors to sustainable ones through dialogues and expert meetings. ANPED was involved and has supported this process from the start. Annual meetings will be held to identify progress on the information gap in global data; lack of capacity; increasing dialogue.
